Yellowstone National Park – what you must see!

Yellowstone National Park – what you must see!

Yellowstone National Park is the most ancient park in the USA, but probably it is also one of the most famous in the world!
And there is a reason! Which other park can boast so many natural beauties all together?

We were there for 5 day, but we wanted to stay more because we couldn’t get tired of wandering inside it and to find a nice surprise at every corner!

We reached the park from the south and after the traditional photo with the signboard (we take one in every park we visit), we started driving on the comfortable roads and we were soon taken by the magic of the park.
Very tall trees, a lot of streams, animals. But what are the things you cannot really miss?
First of all one of the biggest geysers in the world, the Old Faithful.
There are a lot of geysers, because this is a volcanic area, but this one is special. It is so called because it erupts on time every 90/92 minutes, throwing a great quantity of hot water at 55 metres of height.

It is a wonderful show that attracts a lot of tourists, and it worths while. Just nearby, you can find a very nice lodge, The Old Faithful Inn, it is very typical and all built in wood. If you want to spend a night there, be sure to book as early as possible, even a year before, or you will find everything sold out.

As I said, there are many other geysers that make the landscape magic and charming: in the distance you will see them at the horizon line, as white puffs!
Another phenomenon due to the volcanic nature of Yellowstone are the hot springs, some very hot pools where water boils and that are usually very coloured.

Yellowstone Canyon

The most famous are the Mamoth Hot Springs and the Grand Prismatic Spring. Very often you will find animal traces around them, because they stop near the pools at night looking for warmth.

Canyon and lake

Something you cannot miss is Yellowstone Canyon, crossed by Yellowstone River that forms a huge water fall. The canyon is 39 km long, and its depth reaches 1,5 km. Of course nothing to do with grand Canyon, but it is certainly very nice!

Don’t forget to visit the lake. It is 32 km long and 23 km large, so it is very imposing, it is the largest mountain lake in North America. The water is rather cool even in summer and in winter the surface of the lake is completely iced!
But what I liked most is wildlife; if you are lucky, you could even see a bear (but be very careful, because they can be dangerous, as many signboard warn you), but there are a lot of other animals.

We saw deers and gooses, a couple of foxes, some marmots and above all buffaloes… a lot of buffaloes, that every now and then move from one side of the road to another, so that the rangers are forced to stop the traffic and let them pass. Even if they seem very calm, don’t forget they are wild animals and they can become dangerous if you are to near or annoy them!

These are the things you mustn’t miss, but as I said every corner of the park has got a surprise for us! Enjoy it!
